UP chairman held for destroying evidence

Chandpur police yesterday arrested Uttar Baganbari Union Parishad Chairman Fayez Ahmed for destroying evidence of a rape case. Police said an 18-year-old girl was gang raped on April 3 by Arif, 25, Yunus, 30, Sobhan, 25, Saiful, 28, Sohel, 25, Amin, 25, and Shaheen, 26. Following the incident, the UP chairman asked the parents of the victim not to file a case, saying that he himself would look into the matter. However, few days later, the chairman told the victim's parents that they should solve the problem lawfully. However, in the meantime, the evidence was destroyed. The victim then filed a case against the UP chairman on April 11 accusing him of saving the rapists.
