Police blamed
Speakers at a meeting of Narayanganj District Law and Order Committee yesterday expressed dissatisfaction over the role of police in containing drug peddling.
The meeting was held at the conference room of the DC office with District Commissioner (DC) Shamsur Rahman in the chair.
Lawmaker Golam Dastagir Gazi said extortion and drug abuse have been a regular phenomenon all over the district, but the role of police is not satisfactory to this end.
The medicines of government hospitals are being sold while the hospital premises are dirty, he added.
Narayanganj Pourasava Mayor Doctor Selina Hayat Ivy said hawkers have occupied the footpath, but police have turned a blind eye.
Thousands of people suffer immense due to traffic congestion, but no steps have been taken to solve the problem.
