Milon gets bail in EC case

Court Correspondent
A High Court bench yesterday granted ad interim bail to former state minister for education ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon for three months in a case filed against him by the Election Commission. Mesbahuddin Ahmed, district election officer of Chandpur, filed the case on July 28 last year with Chandpur Model Police Station against the BNP leader for not submitting an election expenditure report in time. The HC bench of Justice Siddiqur Rahman Miah and Justice Krishna Devnath also issued a rule upon the government to explain within four weeks why Milon should not be granted regular bail in this case. Milon's counsel barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon told The Daily Star his client would not get release from jail, as he was already shown arrested in five other cases. Khokon said the district election officer in his case alleged that Milon did not submit the report on expenditure of the ninth parliament election in due time which expired on January 31 last year. Milon was sent to jail on March 14 this year after he surrendered before a Chandpur court in a criminal case.
