Road crashes kill three

At least three people were killed and 53 others, including Close up-1 Star Nolok Babu, injured in separate road accidents in Chittagong, Barisal, Manikganj and Gaibandha yesterday and Sunday night. Staff correspondent from Chittagong reports: Close up-1 Star Nolok Babu and three others were injured in a road accident on Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Shitalpur under Sitakunda upazila here early hours of yesterday. Sources said Nolok, 25, and his co-singer Priyanka, 22, Monir Sheikh, 26, and driver Lokman, 30, were going to Cox's Bazar from Dhaka to attend a programme. The accident occurred when a Chittagong city-bound goods-laden truck knocked the private car from behind around 3:00am on the highway at Shitalpur. The accident left the four critically injured. They were rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) in critical condition. Nolok and Priyanka were undergoing treatment at Neuron Surgery Ward while Monir at Ophthalmology and Lokman at Casualty Ward. A correspondent from Barisal adds: A teenage girl was killed and 40 others were injured in a head-on collision between two buses on Dhaka-Barisal highway near Gariar Dighirpar in Barisal Sadar upazila yesterday. The dead was identified as Shimu, 14, a student of class IX and daughter of Ali Mollah of Babuganj upazila. Witnesses said a Dhaka-bound passenger bus collided with a Barisal-bound bus coming from opposite direction about 11:30am, leaving Shimu dead on the spot. The injured were rushed to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital. Our correspondent from Manikganj says At least one person was killed and five others were injured in a road accident on Uthuly-Jafarganj road at Nayabari under Shivalaya upazila in Manikganj on Sunday night. The dead was identified as Manoranjan Hawladar, 26, son of Nepal Chandra Hawladar of Dhusar village under Shivalaya upazila. Officer-in-Charge of Shivalaya Police Station Md Maniruzzaman said the accident occurred around 10:00pm when a Zafarganj-bound bus hit a tempo coming from opposite direction, killing Manoranjan on the spot and injuring five, passengers of the tempo. The injured were taken to Manikganj Sadar Hospital. Of them, condition of Motaher, son of Bolai Molla of Dhusar village is critical. The body was also sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy. Our correspondent from Gaibandha says: A chili trader was killed and four other co-passengers sustained injuries when a three-wheeler turned upside down on Gaibandha-Sadullapur road at Koraigach and fell into a ditch yesterday. Police said the accident occurred when the three-wheeler was going to Pirganj from Fulchari Bazar with chili, trader Shahebuddin, 55, dead on the spot. The injured were rushed to Sadullapur Health Complex.
