'Launch social movement to save Karnaphuli’

A three-day awareness campaign ended in Chittagong yesterday with a call to launch a social movement to protect the river Karnaphuli from pollution and encroachment. The Chittagong Regional Cultural Academy in association with Karnaphuli Boatmen Welfare Association organised the campaign. A boat race was held on the concluding day of the campaign. Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Md Moniruzzaman inaugurated the yesterday's programme. Nine boatmen and local clubs took part in the race sponsored by GrameenPhone. New City Club of Char Patherghata became first in the race. Awami League lawmaker Akhteruzzaman Chowdhury attended the prize giving ceremony as the chief guest and Academy Director Aliur Rahman presided over the ceremony.
