Family members, relatives and well-wishers of slain police officer Gautam Roy yesterday formed a human chain in front of the Jatiya Press Club demanding proper investigation into the murder and the trial of the killers. Gautam, the second officer of Bangshal Police Station, was shot dead by some unknown criminals in the city's Dholaikhal area in the early hours on April 21. In an hour-long programme, Gautam's family members said a kind of anxiety over fair trial of the killing has been raised among people's mind due to the arrest game of Rapid Action Battalion and police. They also expressed their concern whether the trial would ever be held or not. The well wishers in the programme said despite having testimonies of two eye witnesses, the investigators could not unearth the reason behind the killing after 18 days. This creates questions among the people that a quarter might be running ill efforts to hide the real culprits. They called for ensuring security of the family members and urged the prime minister to take the responsibility of the education expenses of Gautam's children. Gaurab Roy, lone son of the deceased, attended the programme with a festoon demanding trial of his father's killers. Apart from the friends and well-wishers from Dhaka and Gautam's home village Mymensingh, Ruhin Hossain Prince, Harun Al Bari, Emdad Khan, Sarkar Ashraf, Tilak Roy and Dr Mohammad Shahidullah, among others, attended the programme.
