Bangabandhu Jail Memorial Museum inaugurated

PM orders release of 1000 prisoners

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Jail Memorial Museum inside Dhaka Central Jail yesterday afternoon. She also inaugurated the `Four National Leaders Jail Memorial Museum' at the “Mrityunjoy” inside the jail in memory of Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmed, Capt Mansur Ali and AHM Qamaruzzaman. The four leaders were killed inside the jail on November 3, 1975. Meanwhile, the prime minister directed the jail authorities to free 1,000 prisoners including women and children. She gave the directives at a meeting with the jail authorities inside the jail in the evening. Hasina unveiled the nameplates of the museums and prayed for eternal peace of the Father of the Nation and the four national leaders. The museum on Bangabandhu was established encompassing the Dewani Cell where Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was kept detained during the Pakistani regime. Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Abul Kalam Azad said the premier ordered the authorities to properly make a list of 1,000 prisoners who are aged, females, disabled, children and sufferers from serious diseases. During her over one and a half hours stay in the jail, Hasina also visited the ward of the female prisoners. Home Minister Sahara Khatun, State Minister of Home Shamsul Haque Tuku, Home Secretary Abdus Sobhan Sikder, and Inspector General of Prisons Brig Gen Md Ashraful Islam Khan, among others, were present at the meeting. Earlier on her arrival at the central jail, the prime minister was given a guard of honour by a contingent of the prison guards.
