Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid yesterday refuted the allegation of nepotism and irregularities in the process of making the new list of monthly pay order (MPO), saying the process was transparent. Addressing a press briefing of the ministry, the minister said, "Only 1,022 non-government institutions out of over 7,000 applications were included in the list, which means we had to select one out of seven," he said. Expressing sympathy to the rest of the institutions, the minister said many people got furious for not getting MPO and they are spreading such allegations. "Monthly pay order listing is a continuous process and the process of including deserving non-government institutions will be on in future," he assured. The government on Friday listed 1,022 new non-government secondary and higher secondary educational institutions for receiving the MPO facilities, which was suspended for six long years. Nahid said at least 13,000 teachers and employees will now get the facilities for the enlistment. "It's not enough. We will keep the process on." He said technical education remained neglected in the MPO list in the past and the ministry has given the priority to the technical institutions as they have enlisted 312 such institutions this time. Regarding the allegation of irregularities, the minister said his ministry will investigate if anyone informs any specific allegation. The ministry has given MPO following the rules and directives of prime minister's office, he said adding they gave MPO to those areas where fewer institutions were included in MPO system last time to make a balance. Nahid said there are additional 1,868 MPO listed institutions in Rajshahi division while 711 in Khulna and 586 in Barisal. On the other hand, Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet division have fewer number of institutions than they deserve, he added. Education Secretary Syed Ataur Rahman, Director General of Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) Noman-ur-Rashid and other senior officials were present.
