The killing of a woman and her three-year-old daughter on Saturday took place over inheritance of Tk one crore property and her stepson might have been involved in the killing, police said yesterday. The victims, Yasmin Begum and her daughter Tanha, were strangled in their residence at Zia Sarani Palashpur at Kadamtoli in the city at around 9:00am on Saturday. Yasmin Begum was the third wife of 62-year-old engineer Shah Alam. The police suspect that Noor Alam Danny alias Babu, 17, the son from Shah Alam's second wife Shahnaz Begum, might have killed the two. Yasmin's brother Monir Hossain filed a case against Shahnaz, 45, her son Babu and two brothers. Monir said Babu along with his mother and uncles killed Yasmin, 26, and her minor girl in order to misappropriate the entire property of engineer Shah Alam, who stays in Sylhet for his job purpose. Talking to The Daily Star, Kadomtoli Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Qazi Aiyubur Rahman said Babu might have killed Yasmin and her daughter to take revenge, as his father left his mother when he was only a 10-year-old boy, and later married Yasmin. Babu is now on the run and the policemen were trying to arrest him, he said. However, Babu's elder sister Shahana Akhter Boby refuted the allegation of involvement of her brother Babu in the murder.
