Keep children away from militancy
Minister urges mothers
Information Minister Abul Kalam Azad yesterday urged mothers to provide their children with proper education so that none of them gets involved with militancy or extremism.
A child gets the first lesson from the mother, he said, adding, "Mothers can contribute to eliminating militancy and extremism from the country by helping their children become good citizens."
Azad was speaking at Azad Products Ratnagarbha Ma Awards 2009 at Hotel Sheraton in the city where 25 successful mothers were honoured.
They are Jamila Khatun, Rowshan Ara Begum, Anwara Begum, Rabeya Khatun, Fatema Khatun, RJR Saleha Khanam, Umme Salma Chowdhury, Prof Begum Gulbahar, Begum Ashrafun Nahar, Rizia Salam, Momtaj Begum, freedom fighter Dr Akhter Banu, Monwara Begum, Fazilatunnesa, Zinnatunnnesa, Chitra Sarker, Pakhi Rani Barua, Hiron Maria Goreti Rozario, Birja Chakma, Rizia Begum, Meherun Nesa Khan, Hamida Khatun, Sahara Alam, Jahanara Begum and Khodeza Begum.
Besides, Fahmida Amin, Fatema Khatun and Syeda Khadiza Ali won special awards while Barrister Rafique ul Haque was awarded My Dad Wonderful Award 2009.
Abul Kalam Azad, managing director of Azad Products (Pvt) Ltd, FBCCI President Annisul Huq and eminent theatre personality Ramendu Majumdar were also present.
