Road crashes kill 7

Seven people were killed and 99 others injured in separate road accidents in Lkkhipur, Naogaon, Chapainawabganj, Gaibandha and Jhenidah yesterday. UNB from Lakkhipur reports: Four people were killed and 5o others injured in a road accidents here yesterday. The accident occurred when the driver of a Ramgati-bound bus of Sonali Paribahan lost his control over the steering and the vehicle plunged into a ditch at 6:00am, leaving four passengers dead on the spot and 50 others injured. Two of the deceased were identified as Kishore, 26, of Hazirpara village in Sadar upazila and Kabir, 25, of Balurchar village in Lalmohan upazila of Bhola district. The identity of two others could not be known. Another report from Naogaon said a paddy loaded truck turned upside down near Khagra Bridge in the town at noon, leaving one labourer killed and nine others injured. The body of Sujan, 30, of Uttar Bhabanipur village in Bheramara upazila and the injured were rescued from under the paddy. They were all traveling in the truck. Witnesses said the labourers hailing from Kushtia were returning with their share of paddy in the truck when the accident took place. Sahidul Islam, 40, Mantu, 22, Mansur Ali, 20, Shafiqul Islam, 30, Nazer Ali Sheikh, 48 and Rabiul Islam, 23 were admitted in Naogaon Sadar Hospital where condition of Mansur Ali was stated to be serious. Our correspondent from Chapainawabganj adds: A woman was killed in a road accident on Chapainawabganj-Rajshahi highway at Dariapur in the municipal area on Sunday night. The deceased was identified, Rokshan Begum, 25, daughter of Esarul Haque of Dariapur-Puraton para in Chapainawabganj town. Police and witnesses said the accident occurred around 8:00pm when a Rajshahi-bound goods-laden speedy truck from Chapainawabganj crushed the woman under its wheels while she was crossing the road. Our correspondent from Gaibandha adds: A four-year child was crushed under the wheel of a tractor on Gaibandha-Fulchhari road at Salua yesterday. Witnesses said a Urea-bound tractor-trolley loaded with logs from Kalirbazar hit the child when she was crossing the road. The victim was identified as Khadija Akhter, 4, of village Salua. Our correspondent from Jhenidah says: Forty bus passengers were injured in a road accident in Laudia mazar area under Sadar upazila in Jhenidah yesterday. Locals and police said the accident occurred when a Kushtia-bound passenger bus collided head-on with a Khulna-bound passenger bus, leaving 40 injured of both the vehicles. The seriously injured were rushed to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital and Police Line Hospital. The seriously injured are Yunus, Minto, Anwar, Azibor, Heron, Sajib, Saidul, Razu and Mostafa.
