Tornado hits Gobindaganj: Two killed

At least two people were killed and 15 others injured when a tornado ripped through Raja Birat Bazaar area under Gobindaganj upazila of the district yesterday evening. The deceased were identified as Habibur Rahman, 60, and his daughter Taslima, 30, of Rajaher union of the upazila. Rajaher union parishad chairman Abdul Mannan said more than 15 people were injured when an age-old banyan tree got uprooted and fell upon the people who took shelter under it during the tornado which lasted for five minutes. Gobindaganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer confirmed the deaths. Upazila Chairman Abul Kalam Azad along with UNO visited the affected areas and assured the victims of all possible help. The tornado damaged many houses, trees and snapped electric lines disrupting power supply in the area.
