Khaleda's writ plea hearing adjourned

A High Court bench yesterday adjourned the hearing on the pending writ petition filed by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia until May 17. Khaleda filed the petition challenging a government notice that asked her to vacate her cantonment house. The court also directed Khaleda to inform it by the same date about the chief justice's decision on shifting the writ petition to another HC bench for hearing. The bench of Justice Md Imman Ali and Justice Obaidul Hasan passed the order after hearing arguments by Khaleda's counsel Moudud Ahmed. Moudud told the court that Khaleda on Tuesday submitted an application to Justice MA Matin, who was performing the functions of the chief justice in his absence, to shift the writ petition to another HC bench. Justice Matin ordered the official concerned to place the application before Chief Justice Mohammad Fazlul Karim after he joins his duty. He also said as the chief justice has not given his decision on the matter the hearing should be adjourned. Opposing the adjournment prayer, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam said such prayer is a play to delay the disposal of the writ petition.
