Pick-up van loaded with furniture seized

Police on Thursday night seized a pick-up van of Roads and Highways Department loaded with furniture allegedly made from wood of government trees. Sources said the trees were cut allegedly by a government official. The pick-up van was carrying the furniture from a furniture shop at Badamtola in Madaripur to the residence of a government official at Bawfol in Patuakhali district. Officer-in-Charge of Madaripur Police Station Quayum Ali said they have seized the pick-up van following wrong information. Later, police released the pick-up van and its driver after lodging a general diary (GD). However, Abdur Razzak, executive engineer of Roads and Highways, admitted that the seized pick-up van is owned by his office. “None can use official vehicle for personal purpose,” he added.
