7 killed in road crashes

Seven people were killed and five others injured in separate road accidents road accidents in Comilla, Sherpur and Barisal in last two days. UNB from Comilla reports: Two people were killed and another was injured when a bus hit an autorickshaw on Comilla-Feni highway at Chapapur in Sadar Dakkhin upazila yesterday. Police said the accident took place when a Kashinagar-bound bus hit an autorickshaw from behind, leaving the autorickshaw driver dead on spot and two passengers injured. The identity of the autorickshaw driver could not be known immediately. Of the injured, Babul, 30, succumbed to his injuries on the way to Comilla Medical College Hospital. In Sherpur, three people were killed and four others injured in a collision between a human hauler (Bhatbhati) and an auto-rickshaw on Sherpur-Jamalpur road at Dakpara Bangermore on Friday. The deceased were identified as Jahangir Hossain, 45, a constable of Sherpur Police Lines, Jasim Uddin, 80, a businessman of Tirutha area of Jamalpur and an unidentified child. Police said the human hauler from Sherpur collided with an autorickshaw, leaving seven passengers of both the vehicles critically injured. The injured were rushed to Jamalpur General Hospital where three of them succumbed to their injuries. Four other injured were shifted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. BSS from BARISAL says: Two motorbike riders were killed in a road accident in Rupatali Gas Turban area on Barisal-Patukhali regional highway here in the early hours of yesterday. The deceased were identified as Mohammed Sipon, 26, and Mehedi Hassan, 25, of Rupatali Khan Sarak area. Police said the accident occurred when a truck hit the motorbike from behind in Turban area, leaving Sipon and Mehedi dead on the spot. Police seized the truck. But the truck driver and helper managed to escape.
