5800 achieve GPA 5

Both the pass rate and the number of GPA-5 achievers in this year's SSC examinations under Chittagong Education Board have increased, compared to the previous year. Like the educational institutions in the city, schools in rural areas also came up with better results to push up the pass rate to 72.31 percent, up by 2.07 percent from the previous year. A total of 5800 students achieved GPA 5 this year. The figure was 4529 last year. This is the best result in terms of pass percentage and achievement of GPA 5 in the last six years, examinees and teachers observed. Better marks in creative section in Bengali and religious studies for the first time helped students secure better results on the whole, said Examination Controller Dr Pijush Dutt. Chittagong Collegiate School topped the list of best schools obtaining 90.92 points out of 100 points counted on the basis of four deciding factors. Of the 445 examinees of the school, 354 achieved GPA 5 to secure the first position among the government schools across the country for the sixth time. Increasing awareness among students, teachers and guardians helped the school achieve the best results, said Aziz Uddin, headmaster of the school. Faujderhat Cadet College (FCC) secured the second place with 89.43 points and Ispahani Public School and College the third place with 87.39 points. All the 43 examinees of FCC achieved GPA 5 and 91 students, out of 103, achieved GPA 5 from Ispahani Public School. Silver Bells Girls School of Halishahar became 4th, with 86 points, 100 percent pass rate and 65 GPA 5 achievers. Bangladesh Women's Association (BAWA) School became 5th with 235 GPA 5 achievers and Dr Khastagir Government Girls School 6th with 230 GPA 5 achievers. The numbers of GPA 5 achievers at the Nasirabad Government School and the Government Muslim High School are 222 and 204 respectively. Thirty-one schools achieved 100 percent pass rate under the Chitagong Education Board this year. Chittagong Government Girls' High School topped the list of such schools with 179 successful students. No school under the board has zero pass rate.
