Couple killed in lightning

A couple and a woman were killed when a lightning struck them in Chapainawabganj and Sherpur during a heavy rain and storm early yesterday and on Thursday night. The couple -- Saidur Rahman and his wife Joytsna Begum -- were killed at Rokonpur village in Gomostapur, Chapainawabganj, during a heavy rain early yesterday, our Chapainawabganj correspondent reports. The lightning struck them at around 4:00 am when they were sleeping on veranda in their house. They died on the spot, said local people. Our Sherpur correspondent adds: The woman was killed when a lightning struck her during a storm at Sherpur Sadar Upazila on Thursday night. The identity of the victim could not be known. The storm also damaged over a hundred houses and blew down tress in at least 10 villages of sadar upazila, injuring 20 people. Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Kamal Hossain visited the spots and said a list of the victims was prepared for distribution of relief.
