Row Over Arrestees in SI Murder

IGP meets police, Rab officials today

Inspector General of Police Nur Mohammad will hold a meeting with Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) and Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) officials today in the wake of controversy over the accused arrested in connection with Sub-Inspector Gautam Roy killing case. The IGP told reporters that he convened a meeting of all the police and Rab personnel dealing with the murder case at his office today to defuse the controversy. The controversy raged after DMP commissioner at a meeting on Friday claimed that the people picked up by Rab in connection with murder case are innocent. One of them even was not in Dhaka on the day the murder took place, he said, adding that the arrestee went to Comilla two days before the incident as he had contracted chicken pox and returned Dhaka a day after Goutam was killed. Responding to the commissioner's comment, Rab Director General Hassan Mahmood Khandker, however, said on Friday that it is not the right time to come up with a conclusion as a high-powered monitoring committee formed by the police headquarters is looking into the matter.
