Two killed in road accidents
Two persons were killed and 77 others injured in separate road accidents in Jhenidah and Chapainawabganj yesterday.
Of them, one person was killed when a bus carrying a bridal party fell into a roadside ditch at Laukhali village in Kaliganj in the early hours of yesterday, our Jhenidah correspondent reports.
The dead was identified as Sukumar, 40, son of Deben Biswas of Chotosimla village in Kaliganj.
The accident took place when the bridal party was returning after the wedding ceremony of a Hindu couple, locals said. Forty-seven people, including the bride, were also injured, but the bridegroom escaped unhurt.
Seven critically injured people are undergoing treatment at Jessore Sadar Hospital. Others have received first aid in different clinics.
Our correspondent in Chapainawabganj adds: An elderly woman was killed and 30 others were injured when a human hauler called 'Bhutbhuti' crashed into a roadside tree on Chapainawabganj-Nachole road at Jamtala village in Sadar upazila after its front wheel spring snapped.
The dead was identified as Kohinoor Begum, 60, wife of Ekramul Haque of Amnura village.
Police and witnesses said the accident occurred at around 7:45am.
Locals rushed the injured people to Chapainawabganj Adhunik Sadar Hosptal, where the doctors declared Kohinoor dead.
Twenty seriously injured people were admitted to the hospital.
The police seized the Bhutbhuti.
