Aug 21 Grenade Attack
Babar's bail petition rejected
A Dhaka court yesterday rejected a bail petition of detained ex-state minister for Home Lutfozzaman Babar in connection with an August 21 grenade attack case.
Judge Mohammad Ismail Hossain of the Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court passed the order after Babar's counsel filed appeal petitions against the rejection order of a lower court on May 5.
Babar was shown arrested in the grenade attack case on October 26 last year and he was later brought in for remand several times.
The brutal attacks took place on August 21, 2004 when Awami League Chief Sheikh Hasina was addressing a rally on Bangabandhu Avenue.
Hasina narrowly escaped the attack but 23 of her party leaders and workers were killed and over 300 were maimed.
On August 3 last year, a Dhaka court ordered the inspector to reinvestigate the cases after the prosecution filed petitions for identifying the police personnel who had procured and supplied the grenades used in the carnage.
