BNP standing committee member Moudud Ahmed yesterday demanded that the government reopen Facebook, a social networking site that was recently blocked by the authorities. “The government interfered in the people's right to get information and exchanging knowledge by closing Facebook,” he said at a discussion organised by Socheton Nagorik Parishad at the National Press Club in the city. The former law minister, however, said the government should take actions against those who misused the worldwide popular website. BNP leaders Abdullah Al Noman, Hafiz Ibrahim and Maj (retd) Hafizuddin Ahmed, among others, spoke at the discussion on 'Bhola-3 by-poll' with Maj (retd) Mijanur Rahman, president of the organisaiton, in the chair. Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) shut down the social networking site on May 29.
