Eight killed in road accidents
At least eight people were killed and eight others injured in separate road accidents yesterday and on Sunday.
Staff correspondent reports: A marble-stone loaded truck skidded and overturned while making way for a CNG-run auto rickshaw in the city's Turag area killing four workers and leaving six others injured when the driver lost control of the vehicle yesterday morning.
The dead were identified as Akhter Hossain, 26, Sirajuddin, 45, Al Amin, 20, and Jafar Ullah, 18. The six injured, including the driver and helper of the truck, were sent to different hospitals and could not be identified.
The truck was seized and a case filed with the Turag Police Station.
Our Jhenidah correspondent says: An 11-year-old, identified as Sohan, son of Abdur Rashid of Fatehpur, was killed in a tragic accident on Monday. Sohan, a student of class five in Fatehpur Dakhil Madrasa, was run over by a Jibon Nagar-bound speeding bus while cycling to Khalishpur Bazar.
Students of Ziaur Rahman College blocked the Jibon Nagar- Kaliganj road in protest of Sohan's death. Later, the police removed the blockade and sent Sohan's body to the Jhenidah Sadar Hospital morgue.
Our correspondent from Dinajpur adds: One person was killed and two injured when a Dinajpur-bound passenger bus hit their motorcycle.
The deceased was identified as Suja Ur Rahman Suja, 25, son of Md Abdul Hossain of Fazirpara, Dinajpur. The injured were taken to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital.
Our Thakurgaon correspondent adds: A woman identified as Begum, 50, wife of Rabiul Hossain of Kumerpukur of Thakurgaon Sadar, was killed after being hit by a Thakurgaon-bound truck at Bhulli Bazar on the Thakurgaon-Panchagarh Highway at around 5:00pm Sunday.
She was rushed to the Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries at about 9:00am yesterday.
A case was filed with the Thakurgaon Police Station in this regard.
BSS from Manikganj reports: Dhala Mia, 65, of Dhankara village was killed when his motorcycle was hit by a bus near Golora bus stand in Saturia yesterday. Police sent the body to a local hospital morgue for autopsy.
