Tk 197.72 Crore BCC Budget Passed
Dev, beautification get priority
Barisal City Corporation has approved Tk 197.72 crore budget for 2010-11, placed by Mayor Shawkat Hossain Hiron at the Nagar Bhaban hall room yesterday.
The budget gave highest emphasis on development of the city and enhancing its beauty.
Stating that a grand plan will be taken to build up a child-friendly city to aid the development of children, the mayor said Tk 20 lakh has been allocated in the budget for the purpose.
He said Tk 30 lakh has been allocated as allowance for insolvent widows adding that no other city corporation has yet allocated allowance for widows.
Plans have been taken to shift the central bus terminal from Nathullabad to Gariar Par area in Kashimpur to rid the city of traffic jam, the mayor said.
The mayor also announced to give "Mayor's stipend" to meritorious students.
Besides special allocations have been made in the proposed budget to building a 20-bed shelter for the elderly people, setting up solar lights in the extended areas of the city where power has not reached yet, establishing three graveyards, construction of auditoriums and towards protection of rivers and canals.
The exact figure of the proposed budget is Tk 197,72,35,784 whereas the revised budget Tk 101,21,41,202.
