President Zillur Rahman yesterday urged the Institute of Cost and Accounting Management Bangladesh (ICMAB) to play a more responsible role to strengthen the country's financial base through appropriate use of accounting. “I believe proper use of accounting will strengthen the financial base of the country. I urge all including the ICMAB to play a more responsible role in this regard,” he said while addressing the ICMAB Convocation-2010 at Hotel Sheraton in the city. The President said the country's accountants could play an important role in providing correct and necessary information to the people to help increase investments and create an investment-friendly atmosphere. “A transparent and correct financial statement can be an unlimited storehouse of information,” he said. Zillur Rahman congratulated the graduates and asked them to perform their responsibilities with sincerity and dedication, being guided with the spirit of patriotism and honesty, to protect the public interests. “Make optimum use of your talent, skill and will to survive in the present competitive world,” he said while expressing the hope that they would be able to perform their responsibilities for the country's development. Commerce Minister Faruk Khan, Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique and ICMAB President M Abdul Aziz also spoke at the function. The President later handed over awards to 12 students for their outstanding results.
