Attract new generation to science education: Nahid
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid yesterday urged all to attract the new generation to science education for building a technology-based prosperous nation.
The young generation is gradually losing interest in science education, he said adding it will not be good for education sector.
The education minister was addressing the inaugural function of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Course and Computer Lab for Masters' students of Dhaka College in its auditorium.
Vice Chancellor of National University Prof Dr Kazi Shahidullah and Director General of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Department Prof Md Noman Ur Rashid and Chairman of Dhaka Education Board Prof Fahima Khatun, among others, addressed the function with Principal of Dhaka College Prof Dr Siraj Uddin Ahmed in the chair.
Nahid said the government will take initiative to observe a science education week across the country to encourage the students in science.
He called upon teachers to make their classes interesting so that students would understand science related issues easily.
There is no alternative to improving quality of education to make the new generation competent citizens of the country, Nahid said adding that the present government is taking initiatives to improve the standard of education.
Referring to the recently formulated education policy, he said the present government has successfully formulated the National Education Policy through taking opinions of all, which will help bring a qualitative change in education sector.
Nahid said, “We should expand ICT related education for all students. But it would not be possible overnight due to our limited resources".
