Two Bangladeshi workers killed in Malaysian landslide
Two Bangladesh workers were killed while another was injured in a landslide at Taman Bandar Baru Fasa 2 in Pokok Sena, northern city of Malaysia yesterday.
Quoting Kota Setar police chief ACP Abdul Ghafar Rajab, Malaysian national news agency Bernama said the incident occurred at 4:00pm when three Bangladesh workers were laying pipes in a 20-foot deep hole.
He said two of them working in the hole were buried alive while the other on top was whisked to safety by colleagues.
"Rescuers from the Fire Department and Civil Defence Department found the two bodies at 5.15pm and 5.30pm," he told reporters at the tragedy scene.
Ghafar said the identity of the dead and the injured is yet to be known. The bodies were sent to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital for a post-mortem while the other who had a hand injury was given outpatient treatment.
He said the project contractor would be summoned as a similar incident had happened before. "We believe that safety measures were not taken and this led to the landslide," he added.
