Nat'l Energy Day Aug 9

The government will observe National Energy Day on August 9 across the country to stop misuse of energy and building awareness in saving energy through using low consumption electrical appliances. The proposal was placed at a meeting with Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, adviser to the Prime Minister, in the chair yesterday. The cabinet division will finalise the proposal. The energy and power secretaries, top officials of the Petrobnagla and PDB were present. "It's a vow to observe austerity to save energy as we need to stop the misuse of energy at any cost, so we plan to launch this special day to save our precious indigenous fuel", Energy Secretary Mezbauddin told BSS. Both the energy and power divisions have been asked to take various programmes to exhibit the energy saving appliances in the capital, districts and thana levels and vigorous campaign programme through publishing leaflets, brochures and chart. "All educational institutions private and public offices and other commercial institutions would be bought under the campaign", an energy division top official said. At present the country is producing 3900 to 4000MW of electricity against the demand of 6000 MW while on the other hand the Petrobangla produces 1900 to 2000 mmcf gas against the demand of 2400 mmcf gas.
