Businessman robbed of Tk 1.75 lakh

A Jubo League leader was shot while he along with locals were chasing snatchers yesterday noon in Segunbagicha area in the city as the muggers made away with Tk 1.75 lakh from a businessman. The Jubo League leader Parvez Ahmed, 35, received a bullet on the right arm. He was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rezaul Karim of Shahbagh Police Station said three muggers in a motorcycle snatched Tk 1.75 lakh from Kamal Hossain at gunpoint near Segun Hotel. He was going to his business firm at Banga Bazar on a rickshaw after withdrawing the money from Standard Chartered Bank's Karnaphuli Garden City branch, the OC added. When the snatchers were fleeing locals including Parvez from nearby Jubo League office chased the muggers. The muggers fired five bullets and Parvez was hit. A case has been filed with Shahbagh Police Station against three unidentified snatchers in this connection. None has been arrested. Meanwhile, muggers snatched Tk 5 lakh from Hasan Tareq, a shoe trader at Senpara Sunday afternoon. He withdrew the amount from Prime Bank and was waiting for a rickshaw along with his brother when he was robbed.
