Woman held for running nursing home illegally
A mobile court of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab-4) arrested one woman for running a nursing home and diagnostic centre at Mohammadpur in the city without any registration.
The arrestee identified as Jahanara Begum is also a family welfare inspector of the Directorate General of Family Planning.
The Rab team with the help of Assistant Director of Directorate General of Health Services Dr Abul Hashem raided the Jahanara Nursing Home and Diagnostic Centre in a five-storey building at Aziz Moholla.
Jahanara, also owner of the building, runs the nursing home and diagnostic centre on the ground and first floors.
Magistrate Anwar Pasha of the mobile court told The Daily Star that Jahanara was sentenced to one month imprisonment instantly and the nursing home and diagnostic centre have been shut. Three patients found in the centre have been shifted to other clinics.
The diagnostic centre does not have any registration and runs without adequate manpower and equipment, Pasha said.
Jahanara had been running the diagnostic centre for the past two years. Many major operations were conducted in the centre without any professional surgeons, he added.
