BNP protest in city tomorrow

Staff Correspondent
BNP will hold a rally tomorrow at the capital's Muktangon protesting the remark of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina about the main Opposition Leader Khaleda Zia and filing cases against the party leaders including its Secretary General Khandaker Delwar Hossain. BNP's Senior Joint Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir yesterday said this at a press briefing at the party's central office. Alamgir said the prime minister made an indecent and offensive remark about the leader of the opposition. People do not expect such comment from the premier. The prime minister recently advised the opposition leader to repent publicly through a self-debasing pledge not to indulge in corruption again, and admit her failure to contain it during the last BNP rule. Alamgir said no allegation of corruption against Khaleda Zia was proved. He also denied the remark made by the grassroots level leaders about so-called Bhaia group [loyal to Tarique Rahman] during the party's national executive committee meet. “None of our leaders made such statement, rather they felt absence of Tarique Rahman. They expressed their keen interest to get him involved in party activities soon,” he said. Earlier on July 31, a number of grassroots level leaders said the issue was discussed in the meeting as some leaders blamed so-called Bhaia group for misusing Tarique's name for serving their own interest. Rizvi Ahmed, Fazlul Haque Milon, M Elias Ali, Masud Ahmed Talukdar, Abdus Salam, Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel were, among others, present at the briefing. JAMAAT'S PROTEST
Jamaat-e-Islami will start a three-day mass contact programme from today demanding release of its arrested leaders including party Chief Motiur Rahman Nizami and Secretary General Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mojahid.
