The International Crimes Tribunal has issued warrant of arrest against four top Jamaat-e-Islami leaders in accordance with law, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam said yesterday. The tribunal has not violated any provision of the law by issuing arrest warrant against the Jamaat leaders in connection with 1971 war crimes, he said. “If the Jamaat leaders challenge the legality of tribunal's order, we will face it in legal way,” the attorney general said while talking to newsmen after a meeting with Law Minister Shafique Ahmed at the secretariat yesterday afternoon. Earlier on Monday, advocate Anisul Huq, a criminal law expert, told the media that the decision of the tribunal to issue arrest warrants against the Jamaat leaders was not proper as per the rules of International Crimes Tribunal Act. The tribunal can issue warrant of arrest only after it frames charges against the accused in connection with any specific case, Anisul said. About Anisul Huq's comments, the attorney general said he expressed his personal observation about the tribunal's order against the Jamaat leaders. He also said there is no scope to challenge the decision of the tribunal. He said the tribunal has made the rules of procedure in order to execute the International Crimes Tribunal Act, and its order to issue warrant of arrest was right as per the rules of procedure and the act. Seven prosecutors of the tribunal were present at the meeting with the law minister. Sources said the law minister invited Anisul Huq to the meeting, but he did not attend the meeting for his busybody with another urgent work.
