Land Grabbing
Dhaka Sector Commander of BDR sued
A case was filed against Dhaka Sector Commander Aziz Ahammed of Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) and six others on charges of grabbing a land and assaulting the complainant and other residents of the land in the city.
Md Sahidul Islam Serniabat, a resident of Nabinagar Housing Project of Mohammadpur, filed the case yesterday with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court of Dhaka.
The other accused in the case are OC Mainul Afsar, SI Afzal Hossain, DCC Ward Councillor Abu Syed Bepari of ward no 46, Osman Goni alias BDR Goni, Amir Hossain-1, Amir Hossain-2 and Swarna Naznin.
After the hearing, Metro-politan Magistrate Md Shahadat Hossain recorded statement of the complainant and fixed today for order on the issue.
In his complaint, Sahidul Islam said he purchased 85 decimals of land at Nabinagar Housing Project in the city's Mohammadpur area on March 9 last year and built houses on it and started living there with tenants. But Aziz, Abu Syed, Amir-1 and Swarna made forged documents of the land and made attempts to evict the complainant and his tenants on different dates.
Following the attempts, the complainant filed a case with the First Assistant Judge's Court of Dhaka seeking an injunction on May 5 last year. The court then asked the parties to maintain status quo on the land.
But the accused led by Aziz and Abu Syed entered the house forcefully and drove out two of the tenants from the land. The complainant then went to Mohammadpur police to file a case, but OC Afsar and SI Afzal rained abusive words on him.
The accused on July 30 assaulted the complainant and his tenants and drove out them from the house in presence of the OC and the SI. The complainant then on July 31 went to Mohammadpur police to file a case, but police forced him to leave, the complainant said.
Denying allegation of grabbing the land Aziz told The Daily Star that he purchased it in 2008 on his return from a mission in Sudan.
He said he purchased the land through local commissioner to assure that everything is okay with the land and there is no confusion about his ownership over it.
Complainant himself is a local land broker, Aziz added.
