Traffic sergeant among 12 killed in road accidents
At least 12 people, including a traffic sergeant, were killed and 35 others injured in separate road crashes in Gazipur, Narsingdi, Rangpur, Rajshahi and Satkhira yesterday and on Friday.
A correspondent from Narsingdi adds: At least six people were killed and 20 others injured in a head-on collision between a Dhaka-bound bus and a truck at Shibpur on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Narsingdi early yesterday.
Two of the deceased were identified as Kawser, 35 and Jashim, 25. The other four deceased could not be identified.
The accident occurred at around 9:15am when a bus from Bhairab crashed into a rice-laden truck in Kundarpara area of Shibpara.
Shibpur police sent the injured to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital.
UNB from Gazipur adds: An on-duty traffic sergeant was killed when a speeding truck ran him over at Dhaka-bypass crossing at Vogra in Sadar upazila early yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Belal Hossain, 35, from Kaliganj upazila of Lalmonirhat district.
Police said a Tangail-bound truck fled after running the sergeant over at around 7:00am. Belal was taken to Sadar Hospital but succumbed to his injuries at about 8:30am.
A case was filed.
A correspondent from Rangpur says: Three traders were killed and five people injured when a truck carrying vegetables lost control on the Rangpur-Bogra highway at the Bish Mile area of Pirganj upazila in the district on Friday night.
The deceased were identified as Monnaf, 25, Ramzan, 38, and Mizan, 25, all from Pirganj.
According to the police, the accident occurred when the vegetable carrying truck tried to make way for another truck coming from opposite direction and fell off the road.
Two people died on the spot and the third succumbed to his injuries on his way to the hospital.
Staff correspondent from Rajshahi adds: An elderly woman was killed and 10 others were injured when a human hauler carrying a bridal party was hit by a passenger bus at Trimohini crossing on the Rajshahi-Naogaon road in Mohonpur upazila of the district on Friday night.
The deceased identified as Kanchan Biwi, 70, wife of Saber Ali of Kharoil village of the upazila, died n the spot.
Of the injured, all passengers of the human hauler, two were admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital and the rest at the upazila health complex.
Police said no case has been filed regarding the accident.
Our correspondent from Satkhira says: An owner of a diagnostic centre was crushed by a covered van while riding his motorbike at Gonali Nalta on Tala-Paikgachha road in Tala upazila yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Shahidul Islam, 40, owner of Shuva Diagnostic Centre.
An unnatural death incident was filed with the Tala Police station.
