City Jubo League leader, two workers murdered

Three people were killed in separate incidents in Mirpur, Bangshal and Kamalapur in the city yesterday and Tuesday. Unidentified criminals shot dead a man in West Shewrapara in city's Mirpur area last night, allegedly over establishing dominance in the area. The deceased was identified as Mohammad Sahjahan, 40, of West Shewrapara in Mirpur. Family members claimed that he was Jubo League's social welfare secretary of Ward No# 14. Police however could not ascertain this claim. Police said two youths sprayed bullets at him while he along with two others were sitting at the rickshaw garage of one Siddique Mian at around 8:30pm. The two attackers fled after the attack, leaving Sahjahan critically injured. Locals rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where doctors declared him dead. Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kazi Wazed Ali of Mirpur Police Station said there are several cases lodged against Sahjahan in Mirpur. In another incident, police said Golap Miah, 28, a shoe factory worker and resident of the city's Sikktuli, was stabbed to death over an altercation with three customers of Bhai Bhai Biriyani House at Najirabazar in Bangshal, where he went for a meal at around 4:00am. Two of the three customers who allegedly killed Golap were identified as Abdur Rob and Humayun. A murder case was filed with Bongshal Police Station and Abdur Rob was arrested in this connection. Meanwhile, police recovered the body of a young man from a platform of Kamalapur Railway Station on Tuesday night. The body of Mohammad Manik Mia, 24, a day labourer in the area, was sent to DMCH for autopsy. Jamal Majumdar, assistant sub-inspector of Kamalapur Railway Police, said the body bore several marks of stab injuries and signs of strangulation.
