'Take public opinion before finalising coal policy'
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday directed the ministry concerned to post the draft coal policy on website to gather public opinion before finalising it.
She said the draft coal policy need to be reviewed and analysed further before arriving at an environment- friendly coal policy that works best for the people.
She said these after she was briefed on the proposed National Coal Policy through a PowerPoint presentation at the prime minister's office, said the PM's Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad.
The PM said from the aspect of the country's electricity crisis, coal extraction is a necessity of time.
“But at first, we have to ensure that people and environment do not suffer from any particular method of coal extraction,” said the PM.
