20 hurt in Savar BNP clash
At least 20 people were injured in a clash between two factions of local BNP at Savar yesterday.
Party sources said some 25-30 supporters of Maj (retd) Mizanur Rahman, convener of Savar BNP, gathered at Parjatan Corporation Restaurant in the morning.
The clash ensued when supporters loyal to Dewan Mohammad Salauddin alias Babu, former lawmaker of the constituency, also gathered at the same place, they added.
Mostafa Kamal, sub-inspector of Ashulia Police Station said, the clash lasted for 10-15 minutes after 40-45 activists loyal to Salauddin swooped on Mizanur's followers around 11:00am.
They were engaged in a chase and counter-chase and pelted brick chips on each other leaving the activists from both sides injured, he added.
The activists also vandalised at least 12 motorbikes and furniture of the restaurant during the incident, said Savar police.
No case was filed in this connection till filing of this report.
