PM's intervention sought to resolve Radhamadhab temple dispute
Two groups are raising allegations against each other of grabbing the property of Sree Sree Radhamadhab Jew Dev Bigraha Mandir (temple) at Radhika Mohon Lane in the city.
The managing committee of the temple, yesterday at a press conference at the Dhaka Reporters Unity, alleged that Abul Kashem, a local businessman, and his associates are conspiring to grab the land by falsifying documents.
Kashem is also hindering the temple's different religious activities, they alleged.
They sought the prime minister's initiative to protect the temple's properties along with all houses of worship of the minority communities across the country.
Mahanagar Sarbojonin Puja Committee President Biresh Chandra Saha, Bangladesh Sarbojonin Puja committee Joint Secretaries Taposh Kumar Pal, Nirmol Chaterjee, Kotwali thana Sarbojonin Puja committee Convenor Ranjan Biswas, Radhamadhap temple's President Dhirendra Nath Das, among others, were present at the press conference.
Earlier at another press conference on Monday, Kashem alleged that Bipul Gosh Sankar, general secretary of the Radhamadhab temple managing committee and also vice president of Dhaka city (south) Jubo League, is conspiring to grab the land.
He also alleged that Bipul is collecting tolls from the area's Hindu communities in the name of puja.
Kashem claimed that he had bought the land from Sunil Bashak in 2008.
The temple is located on around 20 kathas of land and a case has been going on between the two groups for the last 3 years.
