Prabarana Purnima today
Buddhist community will today celebrate Prabarana Purnima, the 2nd largest festival of the community, across the country with much enthusiasm, solemn devotion and traditional festivity.
Prabarana Purnima, also known as Ashvini Purnima, is observed during full moon in the month of Ashvin.
Buddhists celebrate the festival in commemoration of an ordeal of Siddharta Goutom Buddha before attainting his enlightenment.
Bangladesh Buddhist Federation chalked out a number of programmes at the International Buddhist Monastery in the city to mark the day.
Social Welfare Minister Enamul Huq Mostafa Shaheed will be present as chief guest while ambassadors of Thailand and Sri Lanka will be present as special guests at the function, says a press release.
