A Supreme Court lawyer yesterday served a legal notice to the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) to stop earth filling on the Kirtonkhola river within 24 hours, says a press release. Manzil Murshed served the notice yesterday on behalf of Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh, an environment and human rights organisation. He served the legal notice after a report was published in a newspaper on October 22 that the Kirtonkhola river is being filled up with earth. The copy of the legal notice has been sent to the secretary of shipping ministry, chairman of BIWTA, commissioner of Barisal Metropolitan Police and official of Barisal's BIWTA office and officer-in-charge of Kotwali police station of Barisal.
