Gas supply partially snapped in Ctg due to leakage at pipeline

Gas supply in different areas of the port city remained snapped since yesterday morning due to a leakage from a supply line near Chittagong Cantonment area. Engineers and technicians of Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company could not start the repair of the leakage till yesterday evening, as the gas supply at the line could not be controlled completely. Gas supply from the national grid could be completely stopped today to control the supply, said the officials at the distribution company. An 1100KV-power supply line of Power Development Board (PDB) that passes near the leaked gas line was shut down to avert accident, said the sources. Company Managing Director Sanowar Hossain Chowdhury said they have already shut four bulbs of the leaked pipeline but the supply could not be controlled. They faced problems in controlling the gas supply, as the supply line was two decades old, he said. Officials at the company said the gas supply at the line would have to stop completely to start the repair work. Gas supply at different areas including Jamalkhan, Bakalia, Andarkilla, Chawkbazar and Chandgaon remained snapped due to the leakage. Dwellers at the areas faced sufferings failing to cook and do other households. Sources said the leakage was occurred at the underground pipeline goes beneath a under construction plot of a retired army official at a residential area near Chittagong Cantonment on Saturday evening when piling work was being done at the plot.
