Road crashes kill four

At least four persons were killed and two others injured in separate road accidents in Jhenidah, Barisal and Cox's Bazar on Saturday and yesterday. Our Correspondent from Jhenidah reports: A motorcyclist, student of Islamic University, was killed and another injured under the wheels of a truck on JhenidahKushtia highway at Seikhpara Bazar of Shailakupa upazila in Jhenidah on Saturday night. Hundreds of students hearing the news came to the street protesting the accident instantly. The agitated students blocked the highway for about an hour. The deceased was identified as Milon, 26, a student of the department of economics of the university and the injured is identified as Kabir, 25, also a student of the same department. Police of the Shailakupa Police Station said the accident occurred at about 8.45pm when a Kushtia-bound truck hit their motorcycle at Seikhpara Bazar where Milon died on the spot. A correspondent from Barisal adds: A Farmer was killed in a road accident on Barisal-Dhaka highway in front of Batajore High School at Gournodi yesterday. The deceased was identified as Munsur Talukder, 65, of Atak villege of Solak union under Ujirpur upazila. Witness said the accident took place around 6:00pm when a motorcycle hit Munsur while he was crossing the road. He was rushed to Ujirpur health complex where doctors declared him dead. UNB from Cox's Bazar reports: Two people travelling on a rickshaw were killed and the rickshaw puller was injured as a pick up van hit the rickshaw at Banglabazar in Sadar upazila yesterday. Local said Shafiullah, 32, and his nephew Imran, 20, died on the spot as the pick up rammed into the rickshaw in the morning. The injured Rickshaw puller was admitted to Sadar Hospital.
