Schoolboy Shot in City

Nine criminals arrested

Police in an overnight raid yesterday arrested nine youths in connection with the shooting of a schoolboy and injuring two others at Rainkhola in Mirpur on Sunday afternoon. Police said the three boys were caught in crossfire between two groups of local criminals, loyal to Sohel and Nazmul of the area, over previous enmity to establish supremacy. The detained were identified as Ashiqur Rahman, 21, Abu Zafar, 19, Maksudur Rahman, 20, Sagor, 21, Rahim, 18, Al-Amin, 19, Al-Amin (2), 24, Mizan, 20, and Rana, 23. Officer-in-Charge Kazi Wazed Ali of Mirpur Police Station said the arrested youths belonged to Nazmul's group and a pistol, two bombs and bomb making materials were recovered from their possession. Al-Amin, 19, said 25 to 30 men of Sohel's group stabbed him and assaulted Nazmul at Mirpur-2 on Saturday. They (Nazmul's group) attacked the members of Sohel's group and sprayed bullets on them as revenge, he added. He said the injured schoolboys were not involved with any groups and were mistakenly caught in the middle of the attack. Schoolboy Mohammad Sujon, 11, received a bullet wound and two other schoolboys, Sohel, 12, and Ashik, 15, were injured during the clash.
