'Probe irregularities in distribution of donations'

In the wake of alleged irregularities in distributing government's donation to the ultra poor, a parliamentary body yesterday asked authorities concerned to enquire whether any corruption or nepotism took place to this end. The parliamentary committee on food and disaster management ministry also asked the ministry to collect the list of about 33.89 lakh people, selected for the donations in different forms, with their voter identity card numbers. The committee formed a three-member sub-committee to probe the alleged corruption of Chittagong Regional Food Controller Chittaranjan Bepari, said a member of the committee after a meeting held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban. The sub-committee is compromised of Awami League (AL) lawmaker Atiur Rahman Atik, who raised the allegations against Chittaranjan before the meeting following reports in different newspapers, AL lawmaker Iqbalur Rahim and BNP lawmaker Mozahar Ali Prdhan. Food and Disaster Management Minister Muhammad Abdur Razzaque, at the meeting, assured that his ministry would be able to arrest the price rise of essentials and keep them within the purchasing capacity of people. He also informed that there was no food crisis in the country at present. Presided by Muhammad Sayedul Hoque, chief of the committee, the meeting was attended by other members of the committee and officials concerned.
