Kaler Kantha editor asked to appear before court Jan 18
A Dhaka court yesterday asked daily Kaler Kantha editor and publisher to appear before it on January 18 in connection with a defamation case filed by Xenovalley Model Town against them.
Metropolitan Magistrate AKM Emdadul Haque issued a summons on the daily's Editor Abed Khan and its Publisher Mostafa Kamal Mohiuddin a few hours after Mohammad Salauddin, managing director (MD) of the organisation, filed the defamation case with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court.
The case was filed against them on charges of running defamatory news items on different dates from June to August involving Salauddin in militant activities.
The complainant stated that the news items said Salauddin had given shelter to militants and terrorists at his Pink City residence and identified him as a former leader of Shibir, a student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami.
Moreover, the news items said several customers were attacked and assaulted by company people in the city's Dhanmondi when they went there to get possession of their plots and flats.
The plaintiff said the reports were based on false and fabricated information and published to blemish his social reputation.
Meanwhile, another Dhaka court directed joint commissioner of Detective Branch of police to submit a report by February 7 on another case filed by the same company against editor and publisher of daily Bangladesh Protidin.
Metropolitan Magistrate Dilara Alo Chandana passed the order after Salauddin filed the case against Editor Shahjahan Sardar and Publisher Mostafa Kamal Mohiuddin on charges of publishing defamatory news items on different dates from May to September.
