Don't torture children
Urge speakers
The killers of Sheikh Russel wanted to wipe out patriots and honest politicians from the country and so they killed him, said Dr Syed Modasser Ali, health adviser to the prime minister, yesterday.
"Russel was killed so that they could initiate bad politics in the country," he said without mentioning any name.
He told a roundtable on the theme of this year's World Children Day and National Children's Week 2010 at Jatiya Press Club in the city.
Sheikh Russel Shishu Sangsad organised the roundtable marking 46th birth anniversary of Sheikh Russel, youngest son of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Dr Modasser said, "It will help ensure proper mental growth of the children if we refrain from physical torture on them."
The kids become honest in their life if they are not tortured physically, he said, urging all ensure safety of the domestic help in the respective houses.
Dhaka University VC AAMS Arefin Siddique said, "We have to believe in real sense the saying that children are the future of tomorrow."
Sheikh Russel Shishu Sangsad President Sultana Shafi and Petrobangla Chairman Hossain Mansur also spoke.
