Reporting the crimes
A story in an English newspaper has highlighted a serious anomaly that needs immediate address by the Home Minister.
Sir Frank Peters told of a young schoolboy Aaquib Tanveer who was mugged on the way to his Dhanmondi school. Aaquib's friend who attends the same school was mugged no less than seven times. Neither of the two youngsters reported the crimes to the police because some greedy police officers that bring disgrace to their uniform would demand baksheesh to record the crime.
In our increasingly corrupt society we've come to accept such goings-on without giving the matter much thought. And that is our mistake…our BIG mistake. It isn't a matter of giving the police a tip if you felt like it, as a gesture of goodwill for a job well done, as in getting good restaurant service, but they won't record the crime unless they get paid upfront!
If crimes are not even being recorded how can we believe you, when you claim the crime rate is low? How would you know when people are not even reporting the crimes?
It's time, Home Minister, for you to exercise your power and put a stop to this unlawful practice. Punish and sack the guilty officers. This is a great opportunity for you to prove that your govt. is serious about the law and order of the country.
