Punishment to killer stalkers demanded

Speakers here yesterday demanded the government's immediate move to give exemplary punishment to the stalkers who killed Mizanur Rashid, a teacher from Natore, and Chanpa Rani Bhowmik from Faridpur. They made the call at a rally following a human chain formed by Karmojibi Nari, Chittagong and Agrajatra, a non-government organisation, in front of Chittagong Press Club (CPC). The speakers said the government should go tough against stalkers to heal the social decay. There is no proper law and plan to punish the stalkers and ensure safe ambience for women in the country. They urged the government to bring the stalkers to book under a speedy trial so that the offence cannot be committed further. Shirin Akter, national standing committee member of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD), addressed the rally as the chief guest with Neelima Akter, president of Karmojibi Nari, Chittagong in the chair. Rekha Alam Chowdhury, woman councilor of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC), was a special guest at the programme, which was addressed also by Banaful Executive Director Rizia Begum, Bangladesh Teachers Association Adviser Abdul Ohab and Proshika District Coordinator Ajoy Mitra Shanku.
