Dhaka City Corporation yesterday announced the highest bids placed for 12 makeshift cattle markets to be set up in the city this year. DCC's Chief Estate Officer Moshiar Rahman made the announcement at Nagar Bhaban amid the presence of the bidders. Armanitola playground, the largest makeshift cattle market in the city, is set to be rented out for around Tk 2.20 crore when the amount was around Tk 60 lakh last year. A DCC official said the offers will go through a tender evaluation committee and get finally approved by the Mayor. The DCC initially invited tender for 13 cattle markets. But they canceled the market of Dhupkhola-East and Club playground following the request of the local people. Some 700 schedules were sold, but only 44 schedules were dropped in 10 cattle markets since strong syndicates controlled the bidding process, said the official. No schedule was submitted in two cattle markets -- open spaces in Purbachal and in Khilkhet Bonorupa Residential Project. The DCC will go for re-tender for the two cattle markets, said the source. The DCC earned around 2.11 crore from 10 out of 15 cattle markets set up in the city last year. But the highest offers for the 10 markets amount to Tk 4.61 crore this year. The highest bidder of Zikatala Hajaribagh playground offered around Tk 11.11 lakh, which was Tk 12.60 lakh last year. Open space near Taltala Bus Stand will bring Tk 93.57 lakh, which was Tk 41.99 lakh last year. Highest Tk 53.31 lakh was offered for open space at Agargaon (adjacent to the LGED Bhaban), and Tk 5.35 lakh for Rahmatganj playground. The highest bidder offered Tk 5.15 lakh for playground of Maitri Shangha adjoining rail gate in Uttar Shahjahanpur Khilgaon, which was Tk 5.10 lakh last year. Azampur Government Primary School playground is set to earn Tk 31.10 lakh, which was Tk 5.10 lakh. Highest Tk 24.12 lakh was offered for Balurmath adjacent to Brothers union playground in Kamalapur, Tk 9.15 lakh for Meradia Bazar playground, and Tk 8.50 lakh for open space adjoining Banani-Kakoli level crossing. The markets will start three days before the Eid-ul-Adha and will continue till the Eid day.
