Six killed in road accidents

Six people were killed and four others injured in separate road accidents in Narayanganj, Barisal, Rangpur and Rajshahi yesterday. An autorickshaw driver was killed and a passenger was seriously injured in a mishap at Bhuigar on Dhaka-Narayanganj Link Road in Fatulla in the afternoon. The deceased was identified as autorickshaw driver Monir, 20, and the injured is autorickshaw passenger Abul Kalam. Witnesses said a Dhaka-bound car hit the autorickshaw from behind, injuring Monir and Kalam at Jalkuri Karoitala area of Bhuigar at 1:00pm. Locals rushed them to Narayanganj 200-bed hospital where Monir succumbed to his injuries at 2:00pm. In Barisal, a madrasa student, riding a bicycle, was killed under the wheels of a pickup van at Hijaltala on Harinathpur-Kawria Road in Hizla upazila of Barisal. The deceased was identified as Abdur Rahman, 13, a student of Muladi Quomi Madrasa and son of Afsar Howladar of Char Narsinghapur village of Hizla. In Rangpur, two motorcyclists were killed on the spot and another seriously injured when a passenger coach hit the bike near Domdoma Bridge on Rangpur-Bogra highway in Sadar upazila early yesterday. Police said a speeding coach coming from opposite direction rammed the bike instantly killing Ariful Islam, 22, and Shawpon Miah and injuring co-rider Rubiul Islam, 24. Our staff correspondent from Rajshahi adds: Two persons were killed and two others injured in a head-on collision between a microbus and a cement-laden truck at Bidirpur of the district's Mohonpur yesterday. The deceased are Mehedi, 40, and Abdul Mazid, 35, a microbus driver of Bangabaria in Naogaon Sadar upazila. Injured, Juthi Ahsan, 22, a Rajshahi University applicant, and her mother Farhana Khan, 38, of the Sadar upazila were admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. Juthi along with her mother was coming to Rajshahi to sit the admission test at Rajshahi University.
