BDR Mutiny Trial at Pilkhana
Court reads out charges against 400 BDR men
The Special Court-11 yesterday read out charges against another 400 BDR jawans of 44 Rifles Battalion of the Pilkhana headquarters.
Earlier on Monday, individual charges against 200 BDR members of the battalion were read out. The court will read out charges to the remaining 57 of the battalion today after it resumes at 10:00am.
The court headed by Col Iftekharuddin Ahmed started yesterday's trial proceedings at the Darbar Hall of Pilkhana at 10:10am. The two other members of the court are Lt Col Shahadat Hossain and Major Alamgir.
All the accused of the bloody mutiny on February 25-26 last year were produced before the court. The BDR members, who are accused only of mutiny, heard charges against them standing in the dock in handcuffs while those accused of both mutiny and murder were in shackles.
The charges against the mutineers include leaving the Darbar Hall in violation of the orders of the then BDR director general (DG), collecting arms and ammunition from arsenal and keeping those in their possession illegally, failing to control subordinates and intruding into the BDR DG's house known as Rifle House.
A total of 74 people including 57 army officials were killed during the mutiny at the Pilkhana BDR headquarters.
